So now, this is my second day in Kathmandu and I'm already uploading a blog post because I'm leaving to the village in the middle of nowhere (close-ish to Damauli) where I'll be volunteering tomorrow and I don't know how busy I'll be and whether internet will be available.
So: a short update on Kathmandu.
I'm staying in a wonderful little hostel in Thamel, hotel Potala it's called, which is cheap and reminds me of staying at my grandmother's place, simple, old fashioned and everything brown. The only difference is that there is live music boasting through the walls every night from the club next door and below:)
Woa, where to start. Kathmandu is such a crazy city. If any of you know me a little bit you might know that I don't really like big cities but I'm enjoying it fair enough, despite the fact that its super stressful. It's especially stressful because if you just walk around in the small streets you are in constant danger of becoming a road kill. The cars, motor bikes, scooters and bicycles basically drive wherever they can, without taking any rules into consideration (if there are any at all) whilst honking honk honk honk every time you're in their way, about to be in their way or just being in the proximity at all:) And the cars are so funny! Really small and colorful, and they make me laugh as long as they don't drive over my feet:)
And the streets are so tiny! And fun! And beautiful in a dusty and broken way:) There are street vendors all around, and tour guides pretending to be friends, and unfortunately I'm too blonde to pretend I'm not a foreigner so I just resided to the lie that I've been living here for months now so that they don't keep on dragging me into the direction of these freaking temples all the time:P Not that the temples aren't beautiful, but without a tour guide it's already difficult enough to avoid them so it's not really necessary:P
(Though sometimes tourguides could be practical because today I was basically lost roaming around for three hours having no idea how to get back to my hostel )
Talking about cuteness: there are street dogs all around that are really beautiful and I want to pet them but I shouldn't because they look pretty flea-invested...sigh, such a pain. The cutest sight I had today was a little goat with floppy ears eating the offerings at a temple:) Oh, and the children. Nepali children are so beautiful, maybe I should get a nepali husband and get lots of babies just so that my children could be as beautiful.
Anyway, unfocused blog post, I'm excited about leaving tomorrow, to this place in the middle of nowhere where people will hopefully not all be tour guides in disguise so that I will actually be able to talk to some people without them wanting my money all the time :) .
