About me
My name is Weike van Koolwijk. I was born in Nijmegen in 1991, and since then lots of things happened to me. Lots of things which are irrelevant (I fell off my bicycle the first time I biked without side-wheels), but also some possibly relevant things. Let me sum them up for you.
2009: Graduated from Stedelijk Gymnasium Nijmegen (high school)
2009: Followed an orientation program at the art school in Arnhem (ArtEZ) every Saturday for half a year
2011: Spent a Fall semester at UCSC (University of California, Santa Cruz) where I took courses in Animation making and Digital Media production
2012: Received BA (with honors!) from University College Maastricht, majoring in Media and Art
2012: 6-month internship at mOERveld, a cultural and environmental education center for primary school kids, where we use the world of magic and tales from the past to teach the children about their ancestors and how they related to nature. See also my workshops that I've given there
2013: 5 months of volunteering at Maya Universe Academy, an educational experiment in rural Nepal. My blog with my experiences at MUA you can find here
2013: Started collaborating on a project to make culture-specific english children's books for the children in Nepal, together with Rebecca Howarth (UK).
2013: Started doing part-time PABO (teacher training, primary level) at Hogeschool Utrecht
2014: I was the coördinator Construction and Design of De Daktuin Utrecht, a 2-month sustainable pop-up roofgarden on the top of a parking building on the university campus. It was a bar, restaurant, and meeting/chill area in one. For an impression of the garden see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ad9um6-E1e0.
I really enjoy writing and drawing, and I have a fascination with children's culture. I often write children's stories and illustrate those stories.
